Event Planning & Social Networking App
INTERACTION & VISUAL DESIGN
My role was to take a very high level idea and loose set of features, and design out a functioning MVP that my client could use to raise funding. The concept was to have a two-sided platform for Event Planning / Ticketing & Social Networking.
People who want to find something to do can browse the app for events and parties they’ll actually want to attend based on their location, interests, and friends they’ve connected with on the app. Hosts who want to connect with a new audience now have a way to showcase their event within a curated marketplace.

The most challenging part of the filtering experience was finding the right balance between overwhelming users with possibilities, and showing them enough variety - including event types they might not have considered originally.
Adding a ticker that displays how many results there are under the selected filters helps users decide for themselves how narrow or broad they want to be with their search.
MVP Solution
Requesting an Invite & Digital Wristband
Hosts need to be able to find the balance between marketing events to a large audience, and curating who actually attends. One simple solution we could provide in an MVP is to provide Hosts with a way to require a code, which they can get to their potential guests in any way they’d like, digitally or physically.
Guests can monitor the status of their request within their Events tab, and can also receive incoming requests for split payment when other users have bought tickets as a group.
Since everything is digital, we wanted to have a very visually appealing ticket to mimic the physical ticket or wristband that people value.
SPLITTING PAYMENTS
Event Ticketing & Payment Flow
It was very important to empower users to secure tickets as soon as possible, without having to wait to coordinate with their friends in real life. As long as a user completed a purchase for their ticket, we would allow up to 3 days for other users in the app to complete a split payment.
Allowing users to select a connection from the app encourages a higher conversion while making the experience much easier for both users involved.
SAFELY SOCIAL NETWORKING
Live Events & Making Connections
When an event is live and a Guest has checked in, the experience changes from informational to social. Users have access to a list of all other attendees and can also enter a chatroom for the event that will stay live for a set amount of time after it ends.
A big barrier for the social networking aspect of event apps is safety, so allowing users to connect in the app before giving out personal information is essential.

Creating an Event
We wanted to ensure that creating events would be as simple as possible for Hosts - including the creation of tickets directly in the app. Allowing the addition of a co-host makes it easier for Hosts to manage both payments and logistical responsibilities like answering Guests’ questions.
SIMPLIFICATION
Managing Events & Guests
We wanted to make it easy for Hosts to keep in as constant communication with their Guests as they’d like if. If there is any kind of emergency like the location needing to update, we want their experience with the app to be the last thing they have to worry about.
